Unlock the Secrets to Supporting Children Through Interoception

Are you an OT wanting to better understand why some children seem disconnected from their body signals - unaware of hunger, tiredness, pain, or emotions - and unsure how to help them build regulation from the inside out?

Interoception, often called the eighth sense, is at the heart of self-regulation and emotional awareness - yet it’s still one of the least understood areas in OT practice. When interoceptive awareness is disrupted, children can struggle with toileting, eating, emotional control, and participation in daily life.

In this 4-hour on-demand training, you’ll discover how to connect neuroscience, sensory processing, and occupational performance in a practical, easy-to-understand way. You’ll learn what interoceptive assessments are available, set participation-focused goals, and build your confidence in selecting the right intervention approach for each child.

Not an OT? Not a problem...

This training is valuable for all professionals working with neurodivergent children - psychologists, speech pathologists, educators, and doctors alike. Understanding interoception is key to supporting meaningful engagement, self-awareness, and regulation in every setting.

About me...

Hey there - I’m Dr Michelle Newby, occupational therapist, clinical director, educator, mentor, and researcher. For more than 25 years, I’ve worked alongside children with neurodevelopmental conditions - and the incredible therapists who support them - helping both find confidence, clarity, and calm in the process.

I’ve spent my career blending research with real-world clinical practice to uncover what truly works when supporting children with sensory, interoceptive, and self-regulation challenges. And what I've learnt is that when we tailor our approach to the child’s unique nervous system, everything changes - connection deepens, and participation blossoms.

Today, through my courses, mentoring, and global speaking, I help OTs move from overwhelmed to empowered with practical, evidence-aligned strategies that actually work in therapy rooms, classrooms, and homes. My mission? To equip you with the tools and insight to support every child to thrive - from the inside out.

I thoroughly enjoyed this webinar. Michelle paces the lessons just right and keeps the audience engaged with a variety of relatable stories that got me thinking that I wish I knew this much earlier in my career. She presents in a non-intimidating way that excites the audience to apply these techniques at their next session. Thanks, Michelle!

Gerard Luis Recio

This was a terrific overview with just the right amount of depth. You can tell Michelle is deeply researched, understands the research and is able to distil that for OTs. I will be looking out for future webinars.

Angela, OT

A very informative, clearly structured and well-researched presentation. Suitable for those trying to comprehend interoception, whether new to the topic or very experienced.

Annette Collins

Michelle presented the topic in a comprehensive, research-informed way. It was particularly valuable to learn about the range of interoception curricula available, especially within Australia. Michelle has included so much information about how to clinically reflect on interoception for families and has helped me understand that, even though one size doesn’t fit all, I’ve walked away with more clinical knowledge in the area and can now confidently explain what interoception is to a parent.

Rachel Davis

Very informative, covering the overarching process through to intervention. I also appreciate how you explain your clinical reasoning for using a mixed approach to interoception, as it helps early-career OTs understand how to critique and develop their skills.
